data for printing
Summary of the most important recommendations for submitting of data for printing:
- Transfer of all texts to curves, may be enclosure of the used letters. In data from MAC platform always transport all texts to curves – fonts are not usable for us.
- Bitmaps should have minimal resolution 300 DPI. In more complex bitmaps it´s better to maintain file levels – it can ease our necessary corrections in our DTP-studio significantly.
- Shape of the cut-out must always be marked by outline (contour), pIf possible we recommend to set the dimensions of the cut-out knives for whole millimetres.
- In case the colour must be printed as far as to the edge of the label the so called overrun must be contained in graphics, that means it going beyond the edge of the cut-out. Overrun should be 1 mm minimally from the edge of the cut-out.
- The minimal recommended size of the EAN-13 bar code is (width x height) 29,83mm x 11,58mm, EAN-8 is minimal size 21,38mm x 11,58mm. So, the called protection zone especially in front of and behind it, that means a “vacant place” is an important part of the bar code. Small size of a bar code or the breach of the protection zone can make reading of the bar code difficult or impossible!
- All the data must be specified in CMYK colour area. Direct colours must be defined according to PANTONE colour standart.
Generally
NOur DTP studio works on PC platform . We are able to accept also data from Apple Macintosh (MAC) platform in case the data are saved in PDF, AI or EPS formats or with all the letters transferred to curves.
Transition of letters is always being recommended also in data from PC. In case it´s not possible, e.g. from the reason of additional text revisions, it´s necessary to provide also all the used fonts. Export in PDF format without transferring the text to curves is a common fault. Acrobat Reader represents letters O.K., but importing them into graphic software (Adobe, Corel) the letters, which are not contained in the system, are being replaced by non-corresponding letters! In case the data contain bit-maps, it is important to deliver them in separate files, always saved in CMYK colour area. In case of an advanced graphics, it is better to supply it in levels for easier corrections, necessary for flexo-graphic printing. In this connection it must be mentioned that there are significant differences from the point of view of pre-press preparation in flexo-graphic printing than of preparation in offset.
In case the bar code is to be used in the label the type of its format is important. In EAN codes (13 and 8) only numbers of the bar codes (12 first numbers for EAN-13 and 7 numbers for EAN-8) can be delivered. The last number is a control number and it´s being generated automatically). EAN bar codes are being always generated in our studio – only so their readability can be guaranteed by us. Our company is in a long-term co-operation with company GS1 CZECH REPUBLIC – system administrator GS1/EAN.UCC for the Czech Republic.
Further, our DTP studio is able to generate the bar codes for the following industrial standards - CodaBar, Code-25, Code-39, Code-128, FIM, ISBN, ISSN, ITF, ITF-14, JAN-13, MSI/Plessey, Pharmcode, POSTNET, UPC(A), UPC(E).
In case special bar codes are to be used, the vector data are being taken from the customer, which are being printed in the labels in the form as delivered. In such case we take no guarantee for the readability of the bar code.
Supported file types:
| AI, EPS | Adobe Illustrator (up to version CS3) |
| TIF, PSD, EPS | Adobe Photoshop (up to version CS3) |
| CDR | Corel DRAW (up to version X5) |
| universal format (typically Adobe Acrobat – up to version CS3) |
Our dtp studio is not able to receive the file type as follows:
| QXD | Quark X-Press |
| PM* | Adobe PageMaker |
| INDD | Adobe InDesign |
| FH* | MacroMedia FreeHand |
In case you’re your designs are worked out in these software and saved in their native formats (QXD, FH, INDD) please, make notice our workers during the preliminary negotiations. Processing of these materials takes longer time as logging it into other formats is necessary with which our studio is able to work.
File types not suitable for handing over of the graphic design of labels:
| DOC, DOCX | Microsoft Word |
| XLS, XLSX | Microsoft Excel |
| PPS, PPT | Microsoft PowerPoint |
Word, Excel and formats PowerPoints is office software. The first two mentioned is a good aid for hand-over of the text parts of the labels, anyhow, in spite of the certain graphic capabilities they are unusable for the pre-press preparation!
| JPG, GIF, PNG | Universal supported by almost all the software for bitmap graphic. |
These formats are destined above all for internet graphic. They are possible, but not suitable for printing!
Colourfulness
Colourfulness of all the objects must be defined in CMYK colour range, or in system of PANTONE. colours. When bitmap processing the colour management is switched-off, that means the data are no how adjusted automatically. The only adjustment it undergoes is the so called “flexo-retouch”, that means the bitmap in relation to the technology specification of flexo-printing.
Label approval by the customer
The approval of corrections of the label is a standard procedure, sent to the customer in PDF format. This revise serves in particular for text control, may be for checking the label composition. In case a colour check up is required by the customer the proof made by GMG system is sent to him. This proof is corresponding in colours to the future printing, incl. the print screen simulation.
The order unless the revision approved by the customer is not passed further in the production!
data pass-over
For data pass-over all the current data carriers, that means diskette 3,5”, CD, DVD, DVD-RAM, ZIP 100MB, FlashDisk. However, majority of documents is being passed-over by internet, that means e-mail (smaller files), or through our or customer FTP server. Out of the safety reasons we are providing with concrete data to our FTP to our approved customers only. In case you are interested in this form of the data pass-over, please, contact our Sales Department.
